INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

AAEN classes will be cancelled when Fulton County schools are closed due to inclement weather.

UPCOMING EVENTS

For those new to AAEN, parkday is the heart and soul of our group, and our own antidote to "Nature Deficit Disorder". Here is an essay from one of our founders on what parkday is all about.
You do not need to be a member of AAEN to participate in parkday. In fact, if you are considering homeschooling, come by after school and get your questions answered while your children play with ours.
Treat yourself and your children to parkday this week - we're sure you'll come back for more.
Parkday starts Tuesday August 19, 2008.
We meet around 1 or 2 in the Pavilion at the wonderful new playground in Roswell Area Park. The park has ballfields, a creek, woods and restrooms. Bring your own drinks since the fountain seldom works. Here are directions.

GEORGIA RULES and LAWS
Note: Due to Georgia contracting with Lexis/Nexis for its code-on-the-web, bookmarks to specific code sections no longer work. The links below will all take you to the Georgia Lexis portal, and then you will need to navigate the table of contents or copy the section number into the Lexis search box.

Here is the actual text of the Georgia homeschool law, code section 20-2-690. Homeschooling is addressed in subsection (c). Other important sections of the law, relating to truancy, are sections 20-2-690.1 and 20-2-690.2 . Here is the 2005 driver's license law, section 40-5-22 (a.1) that effectively extends compulsory attendance to age 18. And here are the requirements for a teen to get a Georgia driver's license.
http://www.heir.org/ gives the latest information on legal challenges and political aspects of homeschooling in Georgia. They also provide versions of the Declaration of Intent and Attendance forms that are in exact compliance with Georgia homeschool law.
And here, in the USG Academic Handbook, are the requirements for homeschooled students to be admitted to schools in the University System of Georgia. The required courses are in section 3.01.01, and ways of demonstrating compliance are about halfway down the page in subsection 3.01.01.C (Exceptions to Freshman Admission Requirements for Special Groups of Students).2 (Alternative Requirements for Home-Schooled Students and Graduates of Nonaccredited High Schools).
